Building castles in the air

Blogging on the Weekends

I’ve rediscovered my love for blogging after launching this site.  A quick check on archive.org brought up my old blog and I am shuffling through posts from when I was 20 years old.  What a trip.  Its been a long time.  I’ve changed a lot.

Sometimes having a blog can admittedly feel like work.  I experienced this this weekend after feeling pangs of guilt for not feeling motivated to blog on Saturday.  A couple of things popped in my head.  My traffic would fall.  The train would stop rolling.  My blog might become -gulp- boring.  The best bloggers write every day, right?  I mean, at least once.  Maybe 2 or 3 or 10 times.  The number of posts you make in a day is a metric by which the internet community judges how interesting your life is.  If you post 5 times a day and I post once, your life is 5 times as interesting as mine, right?  Either that or you have 5 times as much to say.

As I sat down to my computer to try to keep up with the E-Jones’s, I realized that I shouldn’t blog on the weekend.  I do this stuff every damn day.  I play with Wordpress for a living.  What is a weekend if you can’t get away?  If the inspiration is there and you just can’t step away from the computer until you get it out, then by all means, but the weekend is a time to escape the vices and pitfalls of the weekly grind that seem to be holding all of us back from leading the simple life.  Sunshine, a comfy chair, an open field and a beer are all I need to be happy on the weekends.  Blog comments didn’t make the list.

So please, next time you crack the laptop on a Saturday step back and contemplate why you’re doing it.  Are you giving yourself the raw end of the deal that is life?  Whatever you do, don’t keep the beer and the chair waiting.  Its quite rude.
